California Chrome won the 140th Kentucky Derby in 2014, ridden by jockey Victor Espinoza and trained by 77-year-old Art Sherman. As the 5-2 favorite, the chestnut colt finished the 1 ¼-mile race in 2:03.66, defeating runner-up Commanding Curve by 1 ¾ lengths. He was the first California-bred horse to win the Derby since 1962.
